echnology firm Navman Wireless Business Solutions said it has developed a new truck tracking system that allows carriers to map vehicle and driver locations.

Navman, Lake Forest, Ill., said its cellular-based wireless fleet manager can analyze data relating to the number of stops, miles per gallon and idle time. In addition, it can transmit information regarding speed and ignition status.

Chris Bradley, Navman’s general manager, said an additional feature is the integration of directions with a scheduled stop.

“This way, a driver does not have to make a separate entry to retrieve directions,” he told Transport Topics.

Carriers also have the option to send text messages with updated routes or other information, Bradley said. Drivers can respond by selecting from 100 customized responses.

“This way, a driver does not have to sit there and type in responses manually,” he said.

Navman’s system also allows fleet managers to set up access codes for drivers, Bradley said, allowing managers to track a driver’s performance, even if the truck is assigned to more than one person.
