Intermodal Rail Traffic Rises 5%
U.S. rail intermodal traffic increased 5% in the week ended Sept. 13 compared with the same week last year, the Association of American Railroads reported.
Railroads moved 279,052 intermodal trailers and containers, AAR said Sept.18 in its weekly report.
Rail carload volume, which excludes intermodal units, increased 1.4% year-over-year to 300,388 carloads.
Six of the 10 commodity groups AAR tracks increased over last year, led by petroleum and petroleum products at 29.9%.
For the first 37 weeks, intermodal volume has increased 5.6% from the same period last year, to 9.5 million units.
Year-to-date, intermodal volume for all of North America increased 5.8% to 12 million trailers and containers.
