Navistar has introduced a chassis configuration for the International MV-series medium-duty truck that is designed for snowplow applications.

The design is specifically focused on improved packaging for easy integration, new safety features and uptime enhancements for plow applications, the company said in an April 14 news release.

“The MV Series plow application opens the door for municipalities who do not have the need for larger plows,” said Chad Semler, director of product management at Navistar. “The refreshed series was built with multiple applications in mind, making it a versatile vehicle capable of getting any job done.”

Navistar said the 14,700-pound front axle and suspension were designed with the snowplow application in mind. A hood that can be opened part way allows for daily fluid checks. The integral front frame extension provides reinforced strength while reducing weight when compared to bolt-on applications. The design also allows for multiple configurations, including hose reel and winch applications.

The redesigned truck also includes corrosion protection, heated windshield features to reduce ice buildup, plow controls on the steering wheel and a relocated stalk shifter to provide room for a third occupant. Truck equipment manufacturers can also join a program to help make the truck customizable to meet the demands of fleets. The program creates a connection between International, dealers and truck equipment manufacturers by providing body upfitter support materials and services. — Transport Topics
