Landstar System began construction on a new orientation center for its exclusive independent owner-operators in Georgia, the company announced April 7.

The transportation logistics services company said the building is planned for its business capacity owners, the term it uses for independent owner-operators under exclusive lease agreements.

Landstar currently has eight orientation centers across North America. These locations are where business capacity owners go through orientation when leased and where they attend business classes.

Landstar said in a blog post announcing that it has broken ground on the facility that it’s planned to be 8,000 square feet. It will replace the existing orientation center located in Jefferson, Ga.

The new center is expected to open in September.

The Carnesville, Ga., facility will include two classrooms and a conference room. It will also include areas for amenities such as laundry, showers and breakrooms. There also will be a secured parking lot for more than 120 tractor-trailer combinations and 70 passenger vehicles.

Landstar ranks No. 8 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America. — Transport Topics
