Landstar’s Third-Quarter Earnings Improve

Truckload carrier Landstar System said Thursday its third-quarter earnings rose to $21.8 million, or 44 cents per share, from $20.1 million, or 39 cents, a year ago. 

Revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 25 rose 24% to $622.8 million, the company in a statement.

Operating income rose to $35.9 million, from $32.7 million.

Truckloads rose 10% and “from a pricing standpoint, revenue per load for truck transportation in the 2010 third quarter increased 14% over the 2009 third quarter,” Chairman and CEO Henry Gerkens said in a statement.



Landstar System is ranked No. 11 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
