New York-based Leonard’s Express announced the acquisition of West Coast Distribution, based in Hickory, North Carolina, a step that will increase the buyer’s annual revenue to about $185 million.
The price was not announced by Leonard’s, based in Farmington. The transaction became effective Dec. 4, the buyer said in a statement. WCD is a refrigerated carrier.
Leonard’s operates with affiliates Johnson Equipment, Finger Lake Logistics and Integrated Logistics at a network of 22 U.S. offices. Its services include truckload, less-than-truckload, temperature-controlled, rail and marine transport management.
“We are excited about this merger,” Leonard's CEO Ken Johnson said. “It will help us grow our business within some of our current verticals and brings some additional refrigerated capacity to our customer base. We find that the business models and culture of WCD and Leonard’s are very compatible.”
West Coast, which was started in 2012, runs 47 power units.
