Loads Rise for 14th Month, DAT Report Shows

The latest DAT report of spot freight market activity showed a 32% increase in freight volume in September from last year, the 14th consecutive monthly increase.

Van load availability rose 42%, refrigerated freight increased 24% and flatbed volume jumped 46%, according to the DAT North American Freight Index.

Average truckload rates increased for all three equipment types from last year. Van rates rose 15%, and refrigerated and flatbed rates increased 16%.

Freight volume was mixed from the prior month. Vans rose 3%, but reefers dipped 4.1% and flatbeds declined 12%.



Rates from August increased 2% for vans, and reefer rates increased 2.8%, but flatbed rates declined 2.1%, according to the report.
