Louisville Truckload Carrier Takes Delivery of Freightliner CNG Truck

Truckload carrier M&M Cartage, Louisville, Ky., said it took delivery of its first dedicated compressed natural gas-powered truck, a 2013 Class 8 Freightliner.

Don Hayden, M&M Cartage’s president, said he added the truck to his fleet of 170 tractors and 450 trailers for evaluation purposes.

“We would like to operate 100 CNG trucks over the next four years,” Hayden said in a statement. “CNG is an environmental and economical option to traditional diesel.”

The truck is powered by a Cummins ISL GM2 9L engine and was purchased from Kentucky Truck Sales. Agility Fuel Systems provided its 100-gallon behind-the-cab fuel system.

“We congratulate Don and his forward-thinking leadership in deploying the first dedicated natural gas tractor in the area,” Agility President Ron Eickelman said in a statement.

During an evaluation period, the truck will run various routes in metro Louisville and across Kentucky. M&M Cartage said its trucks travel more than 12 million miles annually.
