Love’s Travel Stops is buying 50 new Freightliner Cascadia trucks with compressed natural gas engines for its fleet of fuel haulers, Freightliner said Monday.
The trucks will be equipped with Cummins Westport 12-liter heavy-duty natural gas engines and, Allison 4000HS transmissions and will have 90 diesel-gallon equivalent CNG fuel tanks, Freightliner said.
The vehicles will operate under Love’s sister company Gemini Transport’s banner, the Oklahoma City, truck stop operator said.
Gemini has been testing the 12-liter CNG engine in a Freightliner fuel truck since September.
“The CNG engine has a 450-mile range, and we’ve seen a significant cost benefit in using CNG as a transportation fuel,” Brent Bergevin, Gemini’s director of transportation, said in a statement.
Love’s recently announced an expansion of its network of fast-fill CNG locations for Class 8 trucks in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. The new CNG trucks will deliver fuel in those metro areas and in Oklahoma City.
