Mack Trucks announced the Mack LR refuse and Mack TerraPro refuse, dump and concrete pumper models are available to order with the optional new Haulmaax EX suspension system, intended to improve capability, uptime and total cost of ownership.

Separately, Mack Defense reported the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve have ordered an additional 144 Mack Defense M917A3 heavy dump trucks (HDTs).

Hendrikson U.S.A.’s suspension design delivers an improved ride, reduced road shock, wheel hop and vibrations to the vehicle for longer service life and fewer repairs, according to Greensboro, N.C.-based Mack, a unit of Volvo Group.

The tire clearance was improved on the Haulmaax EX to include packages with 315 tires and 9-inch steel wheels, while continuing to meet the SAE standard for tire chain clearance.

It replaces the Haulmaax and HN suspensions previously available on these models.

The additional orders for the HDTs, which are based on the commercially available Mack Granite model, are part of the previously announced firm-fixed price $296 million contract to be fulfilled over seven years that the Army awarded Mack Defense in 2018.

The army previously ordered 155 HDTs, which are spec’d with heavier-duty rear axles, all-wheel drive, increased suspension ride height and other ruggedized features to meet the unique requirements of the army. Those HDT vehicles have all been built, and final deliveries will continue through August 2022. — Transport Topics
