In Maryland, John Delaney vs. Dan Bongino: Why You Should Care

Each day this week, three times per day, Transport Topics reporter Eugene Mulero looks at one of 15 key congressional races that affect transportation interests, and explains Why You Should Care.

Today: Maryland’s 6th District – Incumbent Democrat John Delaney vs. Republican challenger Dan Bongino.

Although Rep. John Delaney is likely to defeat tea party-backed Republican challenger Dan Bongino, Delaney is campaigning as a champion of boosting federal infrastructure. An overwhelming turnout for Delaney could signal strong support for efforts to expand centralized efforts to modernize the country’s aging transportation network. Bongino supports minimizing the role of federal transportation to allow states to manage most of their transportation decisions. In transportation-speak, that’s known as “devolution.” Bongino also has kept the contest interesting. In a memoir published in November, Bongino noted that the 12 years he spent with the Secret Service gave him a deeper understanding about the Obama administration's overreach.
