NAFC: Software Packages Gain Importance Among Carriers
oftware packages that help carriers boost productivity and improve profits are gaining importance for trucking companies, even though their benefits are often hard to measure, officials of American Trucking Associations’ National Accounting & Finance Council told Transport Topics last week.
It is often “extremely difficult” for companies to measure their return on investment for many IT-based “optimization packages,” said John Culp, chairman of NAFC and chief financial officer of flatbed carrier Maverick Transportation.
“There are so many IT products, and a lot of companies are trying to determine what’s worth it and what’s not,” Culp said. “Not everybody uses technology the same way, so it depends on how a company views those costs and how important a particular function is to a business.”
