Nober Pitches Plans for Greater Access to STB

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>WASHINGTON — The new chairman of the federal Surface Transportation Board, Roger Nober, outlined plans to make the STB more open and accessible to the public.

In remarks here Feb. 14 to the Transportation Table, a regular transportation forum made up of journalists and industry officials, Nober said his agency that oversees rail mergers and freight-rate disputes is “trying to find ways to make it faster and easier to bring a case before the board.”

Nober was confirmed by the Senate Nov. 14 for a five-year term ending Dec. 31, 2005. He was previously a counselor to the deputy secretary of transportation and chief counsel to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
