Officials Pleased by Discussion at Transportation Panel Meeting

rucking industry officials said they were encouraged by the discussions at the first meeting of the federal panel charged with examining how to pay for the country’s future surface transportation needs.

“This is not going to be just another commission,” said Tim Lynch, American Trucking Associations’ senior vice president for strategic planning and federation relations. He is not part of the Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Commission, but he attended the meeting last month. “There were several references to the Clay Commission. That’s big stuff.”

The Clay Commission recommended and shaped the creation of the Interstate Highway System 50 years ago.
