Pa. Trucking Company Cutting Driver Pay 8.9%

Ward Transport and Logistics Corp. is cutting the pay of its drivers and hourly workers by 8.9%, Pennsylvania television station WTAJ reported on its Web site Tuesday.

The drivers were called to Ward’s Altoona, Pa., headquarters Monday night and told of the cuts, the station reported, citing drivers.

The cuts will affect hundreds of drivers, who said they were not surprised by the cuts because business is down, WTAJ said.

Ward, which changed its name from Ward Trucking Corp. late last year, has truckload and less-than-truckload operations.

The company reported it had 30 trucks, almost 400 tractors and almost 1,000 trailers, according to American Trucking Associations’ 2006 fleet data.
