Penske Adding More Natural-Gas Maintenance Facilities
DALLAS — Penske Truck Leasing expects to add 10 to 15 new natural-gas maintenance facilities this year, bringing its total to 30 to 35 by year’s end, company officials said.
With the 12-liter Cummins Westport natural gas engine coming out two years ago, “we’ve really doubled down” on maintenance facilities that can handle trucks powered by either compressed or liquefied natural gas, said Matt Krasney, Penske’s director of alternative energy.
Krasney spoke during a tour by ACT Expo attendees at of Penske’s Dallas facility on May 7, the final day of the annual conference and exposition.
Penske put about $2 million into the facility about two years ago to add two bays to its other service area. The site, located near other truck dealerships including Kenworth and Rush Truck Centers, also leases natural-gas trucks and sells and leases conventional used trucks.
Krasney noted that CNG engines require shorter oil-change intervals and more expensive oils, and said its technicians were trained with the help of Agility Fuel Systems and Cummins Westport.
“We’re constantly analyzing oil and work closely with OEMs on that,” he told people on the tour.
