Truckers now can pull into one of 220 truck stops and get in-cab access to the Internet thanks to a new service offered by PNV.net.
The company has changed its name from Park ’N View and offers Internet service as part of a plan to “become a comprehensive connectivity and information provider,” said Robert May, chief executive officer of PNV.net, based in Coral Springs, Fla.
An interactive Web site, expected later this year, will give truckers access to trip routing, load matching, driver log documentation and calendars, among other things, the company said at a June 30 press briefing.
As part of the announcement, Mike Delaney, a vice president with Volvo Trucks North America, said the truck maker may offer PNV.net equipment as an option on new trucks next year.
PNV.net President Steve Conkling said truckers would have access to “services at truck stops that you and I have come to expect at hotels.”
The Internet service adds to the company’s in-cab, 18-channel cable television system and its telephone service. These services, which retain the name Park ’N View, are available at Pilot, Petro, Travel Centers of America and several smaller truck stops. The company has contracts to wire 600 additional truck stops, Conkling said.
