Polk: Big Rigs in Use Grew 1.9% in Q4

he number of heavy-duty vehicles in use in the United States increased 1.9% in the fourth quarter of 2004, a slower rate than the third quarter’s gain.

Research firm R.L. Polk & Co. said there were 60,000 more class 8 trucks in use in the fourth quarter, while the third quarter gain was 80,000 or 2.6%.

Polk estimated that almost 3.16 million Class 8 vehicles were in operation in the October to December period, up from nearly 3.1 million a year earlier.



Polk previously reported an estimate of 3.14 million vehicles in operation in the third quarter of 2004.
