Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) will share her perspective on the economic benefits realized when freight corridors are improved at an event hosted by the National Center for Sustainable Transportation on Jan. 12 on Capitol Hill.
Office of Doris Matsui During her tenure in Washington, the congresswoman has advocated for investments in rebuilding transportation networks. “Investing in our region and our state’s transportation and infrastructure is a sure way to continue to create today’s jobs while planning for tomorrow,” she wrote on her congressional website.
The “Increasing the Efficiency and Economic Competitiveness of the Nation’s Freight System” seminar, hosted by the University of California Davis-based center, also will feature Matt Barth, director of the Center for Research and Environmental Technology at UC Riverside, Miguel Jaller, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at UC Davis, and Lew Fulton, co-director of the STEPS program at Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis.
The speakers are expected to emphasize the critical role a robust freight system has on the national economy. A growing demand for goods and services has prompted businesses to call on policymakers to expand and improve freight corridors around the country.
The event begins at 11:30 a.m. in Room B-369 at the Rayburn House Office Building.
