Carrier Execs Report Better Freight Climate

ASHINGTON — Trucking executives meeting here last week said they were optimistic about business and the economy, but were worried about a growing problem of driver availability and the possible effect of government regulations.

The 3-day Winter Leadership Meeting of American Trucking Associations drew more than 500 people, including a record number of motor carrier executives, plus industry suppliers, state trucking association executives and government officials, according to ATA officials. They said total attendance was up about 16% from a year ago.

The meeting was marked by a steady flow of high-level Bush administration officials.
