oberson Transportation Cos. last week exited the trucking industry, agreeing to sell its dry van truckload business to Indianapolis-based Celadon Group for $22.7 million and its flatbed business and logistics division to Annett Holdings of Des Moines, Iowa, for an undisclosed amount.

Celadon said it acquired 370 tractors and 670 trailers from CX Roberson, of Mahomet, Ill., and planned to employ about 320 of its 420 dry van division drivers.

Annett, the parent of four flatbed truckload carriers that specialize in hauling steel and building materials, expanded its business with the purchase of Roberson’s flatbed division, PFT Roberson, and WLS Roberson, a subsidiary that provided supply chain consulting, freight brokerage, dedicated contract carriage and warehousing services.

Annett officials could not be reached for comment on the Roberson transaction. The company’s trucking units consist of TMC Transportation, Fortune Xpress, KTL Transportation and Yellowstone Trucking. The company also provides dedicated trucking service and logistics services. Annett’s consolidated revenue in 2002 was $107.1 million, according to Hoover’s Online.
