The Joliet, Illinois, Intermodal Center operated by CenterPoint Properties is being expanded again with a groundbreaking for Saddle Creek Logistics Services’ 1.11-million-square-foot distribution facility project.
The new location will be built on nearly 60 acres and will be adjacent to Interstates 55 and 80 and within two miles of Union Pacific Railroad’s intermodal terminal in Joliet, which is about 35 miles from Chicago.
The facility to be used by Saddle Creek, which ranks No. 32 on the Transport Topics Logistics 50 list of the largest logistics companies in the United States, Canada and Mexico, will feature four drive-in doors, 328 trailer stalls and 14,108 square feet of office space. Saddle Creek Logistics Services already uses a 590,000-square-foot facility owned by CenterPoint at nearby Elwood.
“We value Saddle Creek’s trust in our team to deliver a high-quality facility that meets their specific design requirements, in addition to enhancing their supply chain efficiency and improving services to their local and regional client networks," said a statement from Michael Murphy, who is CenterPoint's chief development officer.
The project is expected to add 200 permanent jobs and an additional 200 temporary jobs during construction.
