Safety Administration Study Shows Truckers Less Likely Than Car Drivers to Use Seat Belts

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Fewer than half of all commercial truck drivers wear seat belts, a much smaller percentage than drivers of passenger vehicles, according to Annette Sandberg, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Sandberg, who spoke to the Trucking Association Executives Council in Charleston, S.C., on Aug. 2, said the data on truck-driver seat-belt use came from a new FMCSA study.

Sandberg urged trucking industry officials to lobby for primary seat belt laws, which give police authority to stop and ticket drivers who are unbelted.
