Shawn Wilson Appointed Louisiana Transportation Secretary

Louisiana Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards announced Shawn Wilson as secretary of transportation and development Dec. 16.

Wilson has served for 10 years as the chief of staff to the department's secretaries. At the news conference in Baton Rouge announcing his appointment, Wilson noted "there's not one citizen in this state" who doesn't benefit from the state's infrastructure, which  generally has been considered underfunded under outgoing Gov. Bobby Jindal.

“Shawn is well aware of the state infrastructure needs and the need for additional state revenue to effectively address those needs,” said Ken Perret, a retired assistant state transportation secretary and president of the Louisiana Good Roads and Transportation Association, an advocacy group.

“He’s skilled in his knowledge of how our state government operates, and he should have a good working relationship with our new governor and the state Legislature.  He’s well-known in the state transportation community and is considered a dynamic young government leader.”
