Roy Slagle has retired as president of less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight System Inc. after 37 years with the company, parent ArcBest Corp. announced.

He has been succeeded by Tim Thorne, who was previously vice president of linehaul operations.

“Roy’s retirement is well-deserved after nearly four decades at ABF Freight,” ArcBest CEO Judy McReynolds said in the Oct. 16 announcement. “Over the years, Roy has helped guide ABF Freight through numerous challenges and successes.”

Prior to becoming president of ABF Freight, Slagle was the company’s senior vice president of sales and marketing. His career at ABF included roles as vice president of administration and treasurer, regional vice president of sales and a variety of field operations positions in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

ArcBest, based in Fort Smith, Arkansas, ranks No. 13 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
