Teamsters, LTL Carriers Trade Contract Proposals

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>The Teamsters union and representatives of unionized less-than-truckload freight carriers said Dec. 5 they had exchanged contract proposals after completing talks on local, non-economic issues.

The move paved the way for the opening of negotiations on wages and employer contributions to pension and health and welfare plans for approximately 85,000 drivers, freight handlers and mechanics covered by the National Master Freight Agreement.

Phil Young, co-chairman of the Teamsters National Freight Industry Negotiating Committee, said national negotiations would begin Dec. 16 in Washington.
