EW YORK — Truckload carriers told investors here that many of their customers have adjusted quickly to the federal hours-of-service rules because otherwise they would have to pay detention fees.

In discussions at a transportation forum May 11, carrier executives minimized the impact of the rules by saying many of their customers had shown good faith in dealing with changes caused by the driver work-rules change.

Meanwhile, some shippers complained of having to change established business patterns because of the rules change.

“Customers have worked with us. We’re taking links out of the supply chain,” said Randy Marten, president of refrigerated carrier Mar-

en Transport Ltd., at the Bear, Stearns & Co. Global Transportation Conference.
