Trucking Claims Small Victory Over Food Import Regulations

ew Food and Drug Administration border rules for food importers set to take effect Dec. 12 will require registration of terminals, but in a partial victory for the trucking industry, not registration of trucks.
The rules, mandated under the bioterrorism act passed last year, require domestic and foreign food facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold food to register with the agency by Dec.12.
Charles Whittington, chairman of American Trucking Associations’ Agricultural and Food Transporters Conference, said that not requiring all trucks to register was a victory for trucking. Whittington is president of Grammer Industries in Grammer, Ind.
