Trucking Group Cites 'Unreliability' of SafeStat's Carrier Information

merican Trucking Associations urged businesses not to use data from SafeStat, the government’s system for tracking motor-carrier safety records, to make decisions or company comparisons because the data may be inaccurate.

Referring to a report earlier this year by the Transportation Department’s Office of Inspector General, ATA said, “The significant problems with the SafeStat system outlined in the OIG report underscore the unreliability of its scores and data, calling into question its weight and admissibility in judicial proceedings.”

In February, the inspector general said information that DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration received from states for SafeStat had inconsistencies and discrepancies.



In response to the IG report, FMCSA took some of the data off its Web site and posted a warning about potential problems with the data.
