merican Trucking Associations last week announced two initiatives aimed at helping address the shortage of qualified drivers.

One initiative, sponsored by ATA and the Truckload Carriers Association, will provide low-interest loans for students to attend truck-driving school. In addition, ATA and trailer manufacturer Wabash National Corp. said they will fund a national driver recruitment and advertising campaign.

ATA earlier this month an-nounced its support for a Senate bill that would make it easier for military veterans who want to receive expedited tuition assistance to attend trucking school.

ATA President Bill Graves said the ATA/TCA Driver Tuition Finance Program, announced March 23, is essential to addressing the driver shortage.
