group of trucking industry representatives could be ready by early next year to ask Congress to provide financial incentives encouraging the use of engines that meet 2007 federal emission standards, industry officials said.
“We’ll be up and running with a proposal by the time the new Congress is sworn in in January,” said James Whittinghill, senior vice president of legislative affairs at American Trucking Associations.
Several manufacturers and industry groups told Transport Topics they were trying to reach a coalition consensus over what incentives they would seek in Congress.
Robert Clarke, president of the Truck Manufacturers Association, told TT the group had commissioned studies that would help shape the incentives the coalition would request.
