TSA Trailer Lock Proposal Generates Mixed Reviews

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Trucking industry officials had divided opinions last week over the Transportation Security Administration’s recently announced intention to require locks on all trailers, with some warning it could hurt business and others saying they it would increase security at little or no extra cost.

George Rodriguez, director of cargo security for the TSA, said Dec. 5 at the Eyefortransport Cargo Security Forum & Expo in Washington, D.C., that TSA would propose a locking rule early in 2003.

The purpose would be to prevent terrorists from opening trailers to sneak in a bomb or weapon, he said.
