USA Truck Appoints Glaser CEO; Simone Resigns to Focus on Health
Glaser had been serving as interim chief operating officer since April 6, when Simone began an extended medical leave.
In a letter to colleagues and stockholders issued in early May, Simone said he was recovering from strokes and undergoing treatment for lung cancer.
“Although it has been a very difficult decision, after consultation with my doctors, who continue to be optimistic about my recovery, I have concluded that I need to concentrate full time on my treatments and recovery,” Simone said in USA Truck’s July 9 statement. “I leave knowing that a solid foundation for profitability and growth has been put into place at USA Truck.”
In the May letter, Simone had said he hoped to return to work by summer.
USA Truck Chairman Robert Peiser credited Simone with reinvigorating the truckload carrier and beginning to unlock its earnings potential during his tenure of more than two years.
The company said it expects to record about $1.3 million in severance and related costs in the third quarter associated with Simone’s departure.
Glaser previously served as president of two truckload carriers — Arnold Transportation Services from 2008 to 2010 and Celadon Trucking Services Inc. from 2001 to 2007. He also was a vice president in operations, marketing and sales at Contract Freighters Inc. (now Con-way Truckload) from 1988 to 2001.
USA Truck, based in Van Buren, Arkansas, ranks No. 50 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
