Volvo Trucks North America announced a windows-related recall affecting up to 10,736 VNL models manufactured in 2019 from Jan. 14 through Sept. 30.
VTNA issued a safety recall (RVXX1902) in 2019 to address the potential that the sleeper bunk windows may detach and fall from the vehicle if open while the truck is moving. An initial production solution was implemented on a limited number of vehicles that was then replaced by a more robust solution on select vehicles. This new recall is to install the more robust solution on vehicles that received the initial solution, according to the Greensboro, N.C.-based company, a unit of Volvo Group.
VTNA explained the original window hinge and mounting hardware are insufficient to hold the window in place if the truck is driven with the sleeper bunk windows open. If the window detaches from the vehicle, it may strike another vehicle or pedestrian, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash — which has yet to happen, the OEM said Oct. 30. — Transport Topics
