Trailer maker Wabash National Corp. reported its second-quarter profit rose to $5.9 million or 18 cents a share, from $5 million or 15 cents a year ago
Net sales fell to $294.8 million from $333.6 million a year ago, Wabash said late Monday.
“While the continued weak freight environment constrained new trailer sales to 12,500 units for the quarter, it represents a 14% increase from the prior quarter,” said Chief Executive Officer Dick Giromini.
The company anticipates full-year sales to be about 48,000 trailers, which about 90% are already booked, he said in a statement.
“We believe we are well into the trough of the cycle, and expect to see improving order rates in the second half of 2008,” Giromini said.
