Ward Transport Launches Improved Expedited LTL Service
Ward Transport & Logistics Corp., a less-than-truckload carrier based-in Altoona, Pa., announced it is offering real-time quotes and truck availability for expedited shipments for customers in the Mid-Atlantic and throughout North America.
Chief Operating Officer Mike Moss told Transport Topics that until recently, a customer would have to place a call to get a price quote and then await a callback to see if a truck were available on short notice to pick up and haul the load. But technology upgrades now make it possible for them to instantly determine whether a nearby truck is available while a quote is provided.
“Customers are using expedited because they’re out of time. So you need to be able to quote and commit capacity on that same call, on the spot,” Moss said. “We have to have a good [transportation management system], and then we had to build up by procuring ourselves the adequate capacity on the front end before we launched the service.”
“This is an additional part of being able to offer a total supply chain solution,” CEO Bill Ward said. “This innovative new service helps us continue to offer solutions that combine the latest technology with the features that our customers tell us they want.”
Ward ranks No. 27 on the Transport Topics sector list of the largest North American less-than-truckload carriers.
