TCA Opposes Measure to Allow Weight Limit of 91,000 Pounds

The Truckload Carriers Association has sent a letter to Rep. Reid Ribble (R-Wis.), opposing a measure Ribble introduced that would allow states to permit freight trucks to carry a maximum of 91,000 pounds, up from the current 80,000 pounds.

Labor Department Issues $4.6 Million Training Grant to Teamsters

The Department of Labor has issued a five-year, $4.6 million grant to the Teamsters union to establish apprenticeship programs to train more than 1,000 entry-level workers and transitioning members of the military to become professional truck drivers and also to improve the skills of dockworkers.

The Ontario Court of Appeals has rejected a challenge to the Canadian province’s rule requiring speed limiters on trucks, while U.S. regulators said their speed-limiter proposal will be stalled beyond its projected Sept. 21 release.
