Cummins Inc. executives recently detailed the plans for the company’s updated X15 engine platform, including how the so-called HELM fuel-agnostic architecture got its name.

A December settlement between Cummins Inc. and the federal government pushed the engine and component manufacturer’s results into the red in the fourth quarter of 2023, it said Feb. 6.

Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Trucks & Buses US Holding and Paccar Inc. on Jan. 18 selected Marshall County, Miss., as the manufacturing site for their planned battery cell joint venture.

Profits at Cummins Inc. rose to $720 million in the second quarter of 2023 from $702 million in the year-ago period on the back of a jump in sales, including at newly acquired Meritor.

Cummins has been testing its X15N engine in the U.S. for more than a month, a big step forward for its largest natural gas-powered, heavy-duty trucking powertrain in North America.
