Idaho received a C- on the American Society of Civil Engineers’ most recent infrastructure report card, and state transportation officials are willing to weigh funding mechanisms in order to finance needed maintenance and repairs.

The personal information of more than 100 truck drivers may have been compromised during a recent hack of two Idaho Transportation Department e-mail accounts.

The Departments of Transportation of both Colorado and Idaho were honored as top winners at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ annual meeting Sept. 27.

Jon Andrus, vice president of fleet management for Doug Andrus Distributing in Idaho Falls, said Idaho is behind the times and needs to open up more roads to heavier trucks, like those he would like to use in Latah County on U.S. Highway 95 and sections of State Highways 3 and 8.

Latah County, Idaho, residents who showed up to a public hearing March 21 held by the Idaho Transportation Department were largely opposed to a proposal that would allow trucks up to 129,000 pounds on U.S. Highway 95 and sections of state Highways 3 and 8 in the county.

Bigger, heavier trucks could be traveling on U.S. Highway 95 and several other North Idaho highways in the future.

The Idaho Transportation Department is an Idaho Innovative Company of the Year finalist. The government agency was surprisingly named as one of three finalists by the Idaho Technology Council. The winner will be announced on Oct. 25 in Boise.
