A United Auto Workers strike against General Motors Corp. lasting longer than a week or two could cost GM billions, and two Canadian plants have been idled as a result of the strike, news services reported Tuesday.

PierPass Inc., which operates the off-peak program at Southern California ports, said the container terminals at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will require trucks to be equipped with TruckTags in order to gain access to the terminals, starting Dec. 1.

Logistics and delivery firm Dynamex Inc. said late Wednesday its fiscal fourth-quarter profit rose to $4.1 million or 38 cents a share, from $3.3 million or 31 cents a year earlier.

Truckload carrier Schneider National said a sleep apnea screening and treatment program managed by an outside vendor has improved safety and driver productivity while lowering health-care costs.

Canadian transportation and logistics firm TransForce Income Fund said it had signed a definitive agreement to buy Century II Holdings, which owns courier company Information Communication Services.

The national average price of diesel fuel hit its highest level in more than a year last week following a 3.1-cent increase to $2.924 a gallon, while crude oil closed at more than $80 a barrel for the first time.

Schneider National unit Schneider Logistics (Tianjin) Co. said Monday it has purchased the operating assets of Chinese firm BaoYun Logistics.
