SoCal Ports Reach Labor Pact

Union workers at the Southern California ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach reached a tentative agreement with shipping lines and terminal operators, averting the threat of a strike at the biggest U.S. port complex, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Eastern freight railroad Norfolk Southern Corp. said Wednesday its second-quarter earnings grew 5% to $394 million or 98 cents a share, from $375 million or 89 cents a year ago.

Diesel fuel’s national average pump price held at last week’s level of $2.889 a gallon, while gasoline plunged 9.1 cents to $2.958, the Department of Energy said Monday.
