dvocacy group Public Citizen said in a recent report that the government agencies charged with securing hazardous material transportation have not done enough to prevent a possible terrorist attack.

“[The federal government] has failed to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the dangers of hazardous materials transport by truck,” said the report released last month.

“There are insufficient checks on where trucks carrying hazardous materials may drive; insufficient oversight as to the types, amounts and locations of trucks moving these lethal loads; and insufficient controls on the issuance of commercial licenses to become a driver of a truck carrying hazardous materials,” the report said.

Specifically, the report cited the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Research and Special Programs Administration for weakening or delaying security regulations.
