Dan Hilton, an alumnus of Capitol Hill and trade associations with extensive experience in government and advocacy, has been selected as the new executive director of American Trucking Associations’ Moving & Storage Conference, ATA announced Aug. 19.
“Dan has wide-ranging expertise both on and off Capitol Hill,” ATA President Chris Spear said. “His familiarity with the inner workings of Congress and his proven ability to mobilize coalitions to shape good public policy are invaluable assets that will allow us to advance a pro-mover agenda in the nation’s capital and from coast to coast.
“His unique skill set will position MSC to build on its record of success and move our industry forward.”
Hilton said in a statement: “The dedicated men and women of the moving industry display truly extraordinary feats of hard work and logistical prowess on a daily basis, and it is an honor to spearhead the fight to represent their interests.
“From addressing shortcomings with the Global Household Goods Contract, to cracking down on rogue movers, to protecting independent contractors, there is no shortage of issues our industry must tackle. I look forward to hitting the ground running and sharing movers’ powerful stories.”
Hilton most recently led federal and international contracting issues at the American Council of Engineering Companies, where he successfully led its efforts to challenge federal contracting policies related to COVID-19, loosening access to federal installations, and worked to design fair and reasonable contracting rules and opportunities for the private sector.

He began on staff at the House Armed Services Committee before joining the office of Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-N.C.), followed by the office of Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Texas), where he oversaw military, transportation and energy policy.
After his tenure on Capitol Hill, he was selected to open the Washington office of the American Supply Association. The national trade organization represents distributors and manufacturers serving the plumbing, heating, cooling, piping and industrial pipe-valve-fitting industries. There, he successfully launched ASA-PAC, the association’s legislative fly-in, and facilitated the introduction of family-run plumbing wholesalers to legislators and their staff.
Hilton is a graduate of the State University of New York-Oswego, where he received a bachelor’s in political science. Also, he earned an MBA and an M.A. in government from the Carey Business School of Johns Hopkins University.
