Consumer Confidence Declines from Six-Year High

Consumer confidence fell in June from a six-year high the previous month, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index released Friday.

The month’s preliminary index fell to a reading of 82.7, from 84.5 in May that was the highest since July 2007.

Economists had forecast a reading of 84.5, Bloomberg News reported.

The index averaged 64.2 during the recession that ended in June 2009.
