Deutsche Post AG, Europe’s largest package express carrier, said its third-quarter profits increased 5.8% to 399 million euros ($535 million).
Revenue decreased 2.5% at the Bonn, Germany-based company to 13.5 billion euros ($18.1 billion). Analyst had expected revenues to reach 14.2 billion euros ($19 billion), Bloomberg News reported.
Third-quarter operating income at Deutsche Post rose 7% to 646 million euros ($865 million), according to the company.
DHL’s express-package, freight-handling and forwarding operations declined 4.8% in the Americas and 1.8% in the Asia-Pacific region, said Bloomberg.
“It will be a tough ride until the end of the year,” CEO Frank Appel said in a statement. “We have the right measures in place, but nevertheless, since we don’t expect any upside from the economy, it will be challenging.”
