Diesel Price Sheds 3.9¢ to Settle at $3.826 a Gallon

Decline Is First After Four Straight Increases

The national average diesel price dropped 3.9 cents to $3.826 a gallon, its first decline after four consecutive increases, according to Energy Information Administration data released July 15.

Highlights

  • The national average price for a gallon of diesel had climbed 20.7 cents since June 10.
  • A gallon of diesel now costs 2 cents more than it did at this time in 2023.
  • The average diesel price went down in eight of the 10 regions in EIA’s weekly survey and up in two. The biggest drop  was 5.8 cents in the Midwest; the largest gain was 1.2 cents in the West Coast less California region.
  • The average price for a gallon of gasoline nudged up seven-tenths of a cent to $3.496. That's 6.3 cents less than it cost at this time a year ago.
