Factory Orders Excluding Aircraft Rise 5.1%

Factory orders excluding aircraft jumped 5.1% in August, the Commerce Department said Monday.

The rise on orders for non-military capital goods excluding planes was the biggest since March and exceeded a 4.1% gain in the previous month, Commerce said.

Overall factory orders slipped 0.5%, bigger than the 0.4% decline that was forecast, Bloomberg reported.

Demand for durable goods, which make up just over half of total factory demand, fell 1.5%.

The trucking industry relies on factory orders and shipments for much of its business.
