issouri state Sen. Bill Stouffer (R) said he will propose creating separate lanes for trucks and cars on two of the state’s most heavily traveled interstates without charging tolls.

Instead, his plan would divert 1 cent of the state’s sales tax on each dollar taxed to fund the construction of the new lanes on Interstates 70 and 44, increasing the total lanes on each interstate to eight.

“I really feel that this would be a good thing for the state because these two roads are in dire need of repair and so this sales tax would be a good funding alternative to take care of that,” Stouffer, chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, told Transport Topics on Aug. 23.
