R.I. Sets Tougher Idling Law With State Trucking Group’s Blessing

hode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri (R) signed a bill July 10 prohibiting truck drivers from idling their engines for more than five consecutive minutes during any 60-minute period.

John Atwood, president of the Rhode Island Trucking Association, told Transport Topics the association supported the legislation.

“We have been working with the environmental groups and some other agencies for the past three years on this, so we are very pleased with the way it turned out,” Atwood said.



Sheila Dormody, the Rhode Island director of Clean Water Action, a nonprofit environmental organization, said she was pleased the bill was signed.
