Celadon Group Inc. purchased Taylor Express Inc., a regional dry van and dry bulk for-hire and dedicated truckload carrier, for $43 million in cash, the Indianapolis-based carrier announced Jan. 26.

DUBLIN, Va. — Volvo Trucks dedicated a 2015 Volvo VNL 780 truck and recognized the 2015-2016 America’s Road Team, the trucking industry’s premier safety outreach program.

Incoming members of the 2015-2016 America’s Road Team were introduced Jan. 14 at American Trucking Associations’ headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, where they were hailed as the nation’s “best of the best” truck drivers.

U.S. retail diesel will average $2.85 per gallon this year, the Department of Energy said, lowering its most recent forecast by 22 cents.

WASHINGTON — Increasing demand for faster delivery of last-mile goods is leading to tighter supply chains with shorter truck trips, industry officials said at a freight panel.

The Port of Virginia reported it handled record volume of more than 2.3 million 20-foot equivalent units in 2014, up 7.6% over the previous year, but cited “challenges” for truckers that serve the port.
